Johnny's Strawberry Planting/Harvesting Program is designed to take the guesswork out of variety selection, allowing you to extend your strawberry harvest across the growing season. Take note that actual ripening times will vary depending upon your latitude/geolocation, microclimate, cultivation practices, and year-to-year climate variation, among other factors.

Summer Fruiting (June-Bearing) Strawberries

Summer fruiting (June-bearing) varieties are the earliest type to fruit, producing berries all at once as a single crop in June, or earlier in warmer climates. They produce one crop and then expend energy vegetatively propagating by sending out runners, also called daughter plants, that will fruit the following year. These varieties require an establishment year, after which they fruit for 3-5 years before needing to be replanted.

Day Neutral and Everbearing Strawberries

Everbearing and day neutral strawberries fruit through the summer months during their first year. These types are usually grown as an annual.
